Benzie County Community Chorus
Sound of Summer 2017
When spring comes, can the Benzie County Community Chorus (BC3) be far behind? We take this opportunity to invite you to attend SOUND OF SUMMER, BC3's musical offering for June and July of 2017. Dir. Dinah Haag and the 50 member group have been working since February on an exciting and innovative show designed for your listening pleasure.
We ask you to join BC3 for a night of music entitled Come Fly with Me. First, you'll be treated to a number of tunes designed to put you in the mood for our journey. Songs such as Blue Skies, Moonglow, and What a Wonderful World, set the pace. Then it's off to various world locations - Ireland and a beautiful arrangement of Danny Boy; Scotland for a rousing rendition of Loch Lomond; Ireland for a little jig entitled I'll Tell Me Ma; Hungary where you will meet The Handsome Butcher; Japan, for a hunting melody entitled Sakura; Australia and Waltzing Matilda: and the dark continent for arousing arrangement of Africa (complete with weather).
The second half of the show continues our international set with a layover in France. Cole Porter's I Love Paris sets the scene for a Parisian coffee shop tete a tete with Coffee and other gastronomic treats. In our final set, patterned after the old WJR radio show "Night Flight", we present an eclectic collection of songs including our final number, Woodsmoke and Oranges. As is the case each year, interspersed with the choral arrangements will be several solos, and small group numbers.
Our accompanist this season is the multi-talented Christy Case, director of vocal music for the Benzie Central Schools system. We are delighted to have her on board.
Our performance schedule is six shows - three in June and three in July. The June dates are Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the 24th, 25th and 26th. The dates in July are Saturday, Sunday, and Monday the 8th, 9th and 10th. All shows will be at 7:30 in the Mills Community House Theatre in Benzonia. Tickets for all shows are $15 ($10 for children 16 and under). All tickets are general admission. There is no reserved seating. Seating capacity for each show is 140. You may order tickets from our website or call the Chorus Box Office at (231) 399-0242. MasterCard, Visa and Discover cards are accepted. Tickets will be available at the door on the evenings of the performance until house capacity has been reached. Please phone the Box Office the day of the performance to check availability. No credit card payments will be excepted at the theater.
The excitement surrounding this year's performance is palpable. We are certain we have found a formula for pleasing our audiences as much as ourselves. Please join us this year for SOUND OF SUMMER.
